LEAVING SPACE is a new creative studio based in London and Rotterdam, co-founded by artists-filmmakers Ugo Petronin & Tim Travers Hawkins.
We share a deep love for nature and the environment, and the studio was born out of a desire to address the ecological challenges we face by providing a catalyst for interactions between art, science and technology. We will draw on our experience in film production, interactive and multimedia art to initiate collaborations that centre non-human perspectives. Our main focus is to critically explore the relationship between humans and the environment by producing playful work that challenges preconceptions, resonates with audiences, and provokes debate and discussion.

Our first project Becoming Soma is in development, supported by a grant from the Netherlands Film Fund. It is a cross platform exploration of “ecological embodiment” and multi-species relations. We are looking both at the potential for new media technologies such as VR to approach non-human embodied experiences, as well as other pre-existing human strategies of ecological embodiment including ritual, music, dance and hallucinogens, and investigating how these experiences can contribute to transforming human-environment relationships. We are currently initiating and developing connections with specialists and creators in related fields such as ecology, neuroscience and computer science to help us realise an immersive and interactive work.
